Atiku Cannot Defend Peter Obi’s Votes More Than The Obidients – Obidient Movement Must Stand Firm, Says Rev. Innocent CP Udochukwu
Abuja, Nigeria – The National Coordinator of the Peter Obi Mandate Group (POMAG), Rev. Innocent CP Udochukwu, has asserted that former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, cannot protect the votes of Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential election Mr. Peter Obi more effectively than Obi’s own grassroots supporters, known as the Obidient Movement.
Rev. Udochukwu, who also serves as Executive Director of Nigeria 2.0, made this statement in response to recent comments by political analysts suggesting that Peter Obi’s prospects in the presidential election depend on Atiku’s ability to defend his votes.
In his remarks, Rev. Udochukwu stated: “No politician in Nigeria today can safeguard their votes without the active participation of the electorate. History demonstrates that Atiku has been unable to defend his own votes, let alone those of another candidate. In 2019, Atiku ran for president with Peter Obi as his running mate under the PDP platform against the incumbent, late Muhammadu Buhari. That election was widely perceived to have been marred by irregularities, and Atiku failed to defend his votes. The answer to whether he protected his mandate is a resounding no.”
Rev. Udochukwu expressed support for a coalition between Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar but cautioned the Obidient Movement against relying on Atiku to secure Obi’s votes. He urged supporters to take personal responsibility for protecting their votes, as they did in Lagos, the Federal Capital Territory, and other states in 2023 elections. “We must remain steadfast and vigilant until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announces the legitimate winner, which we believe will be Peter Obi. Failure to maintain presence at the final collation centers may enable corrupt INEC officials, in collusion with unscrupulous politicians, to subvert the will of the people,” he added.
He concluded by emphasizing that Peter Obi’s massivel organic support base requires the electorate to be prepared to vote and defend their votes. “With the people’s commitment, the outcome will become a historic victory for Peter Obi,” Rev. Udochukwu said.
