Anambra Rep member sponsors football tournament for Onitsha CMO

In his bid to contribute to physical exercise for healthy growth and fitness amongst the male folk, the member representing Onitsha North and South in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Engr. Emeka Idu, has sponsored a football competition for Catholic Men Organization, (CMO) within Onitsha legion termed ‘Onitsha Legion CMO Football Tournament’.
The flag off and venue of the competition, Modebe Memorial Secondary School field, Odoakpu, Onitsha, is designed based on its location as centre of the Legion that its capacity can accommodate hundreds of spectators.
The sponsor, a Chieftain of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and Candidate for Onitsha North and South Federal Constituency, for 2027 Election, it was gathered agreed to take up the sponsorship after a prompt consideration and adoption of a proposal sent to him by the Leadership of the CMO in Onitsha Legion.
As an active member of the Organisation and lover of sports, he immediately accepted the offer designed as a means to keep the Catholic Fathers engaged, promote peace, and brotherhood in Onitsha Legion.
Tagged, “Love, Peace and Unity Football tournament” it was gathered, is aimed to unite and promote Love and Brotherhood amongst all the Catholic men in the Onitsha Legion.
In his speech at the Opening ceremony of the 2026 CMO Onitsha Legion Football tournament, Idu expressed his satisfaction with the proper coordination of the competition, while imploring the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) to take note of lapses, if any to be improved upon in another edition.
He was applauded by scores of CMO members for his kind gesture in sponsoring the tournament to unite and promote love and brotherhood amongst Catholic Men Organisation members.
Speaking at the Event, Hon Alama said: “The CMO football sponsorship is one of the numerous humanitarian outreaches of the national lawmaker.
He said, “It is also important to note that over the years, Hon Idu Emeka has always supported the Church, widows, youths and the traders”.
The Football tournament is expected to end on 7th September,2026 with cash prizes to be won including rewards.
