Anambra inaugurates panel of inquiry to resolve Omor, Umumbo Communal Crisis

Anambra state government yesterday inaugurated a ten man panel of inquiry to resolve the communal crisis between Omor and Umumbo communities.

Inaugurating the Committee, Governor Willie Obiano represented by his Deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke restated his government’s commitment towards maintaining peace and harmony across the state.

Obiano charged the group to be mindful of their mandate and to endeavour to provide the state government with all necessary information that will enable it settle the communal crisis in no distance time.

The Panel he said was inaugurated to investigate the Omor and Umumbo crisis to find out the remote and immediate causes of the communal crisis, as well as sort out ways of permanently resolving the issue, and other similar issues that may emerge in the state in the future.

The panel has Professor Solomon Ekwenze as its Chairman, and Permanent Secretary, SSG’s office, Dr Emma Ude-Akpeh as the Secretary.

Other members of the Panel include Speaker of the Anambra state House of Assembly, Honourable Uche Okafor, the member representing Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency, Honourable Vincent Ofumelu, the Traditional Ruler of Omasi Community and Chairman Ayamelum Council of Traditional Rulers, Igwe Benjamin Okeji, Chief Paul Odenigbo, Reverend Father John Manafa, Chief Bonny Emengini and Mr Tony Iwoba.
Responding on behalf of others, the Chairman of the Panel, Professor Ekwenze assured that the group will do all that is necessary to ensure that peace is permanently restored in the area.

Contributing, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Honourable Okafor called on Omor and Umumbo communities to embrace peace and cooperate with state government in resolving the issue, saying that nothing is worth more than the human life.
