Obiano inaugurates Obizi – Uga Regional Water, New Otuocha Regional Water Scheme

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has inaugurated the resuscitated and expanded Obizi-Uga Regional Water Scheme to serve almost all the communities in Aguata local government area.


As well , Obiano has inaugurated the New Otuocha Regional Water Supply Scheme has been inaugurated targeted at supplying clean water to three Communities in Anambra East including Aguleri, Umueri and Umu-Oba Anam.


The Obizi Uga water project spans forty kilometres, covers fourteen communities, and has eight overhead tanks located in benefitting communities in Aguata Local Government Area, including Ekwulobia, Igboukwu, Uga and Isuofia with a yield of seven thousand cubic meters per hour.
Governor Obiano disclosed that his administration is working on additional twenty communities, to accommodate all Communities in Aguata.

Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Public Utilities and Water Resources, Engineer Emeka Ezenwanne said that there was ongoing small town water projects in five communities in Aguata.
Earlier, the Transition Committee Chairman for Aguata, Dr. Eche Ezeibe praised Governor Obiano’s administration for completing the scheme.

Meanwhile , the New Otuocha Regional Water Supply Scheme has been inaugurated by Governor Willie Obiano. The water scheme will service three Communities in Anambra East including Aguleri, Umueri and Umu-Oba Anam.
Governor Obiano said that the target of the facility was to take water to all parts of the Local Government Area.


The Governor said that in order to protect the project, a Facility Manager has been appointed for maintenance and services, stating that individuals building new houses and have interest in connecting water to their homes should do so, but with the permission of the Ministry of Public Utilities and Water Resources.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Public Utilities and Water Resources, Mr Emeka Ezenwanne, who described the project as historic noted that time for delivering the project is apt as the world is battling with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Transition Committee Chairman for Anambra East Local Government Area, Mr Obi Nweke who appreciated the Governor for the laudable project in the local government, expressed optimism that apart from the three communities, water will get to other towns in the local government area.

The Commissioner for Works, Mr Marcel Ifejiofor, traditional rulers of the three communities, among others were present at the ceremony.

water project which was jointly executed by the European Union and the Anambra State government, sources water from the Omambala River and has the capacity to treat ten million litres of water daily.
From the Omambala River, the water is pumped to the Water tank in Otuocha, from where it is being reticulated.
