The Catch Them Young Community Initiative (CATYCOI) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and other stakeholders to prioritize participation of youths in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
The group urged the electoral and security authorities to take proactive measures that will enhance youth participation to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process come November 8, 2025.
A statement signed by CATYCOI Executive Director, Comrade Nonso Orakwe, stressed that empowering young voters has become a democratic necessity, stating that the future of state and Nigeria’s democracy depends on the active participation of its youth.

Orakwe identified voter apathy, insecurity, disinformation, logistical bottlenecks, and political exclusion as major obstacles hindering youth participation in the electoral process.
He emphasized that young people, being the largest demographic group in Anambra State and Nigeria, possess the power to shape the direction of governance and development in the state.
He stressed that empowering young voters is not only a civic duty but a democratic imperative, crucial for the credibility and sustainability of the electoral process.
“The future of Anambra and Nigeria’s democracy depends on the active participation of its youth.
“When young people are informed, included, and protected, the credibility of the entire electoral process is strengthened,” he said.
“We cannot continue to treat youth participation as an afterthought it must be at the centre of electoral planning and implementation,” he added.
Orakwe called on INEC and security agencies to take specific measures to ensure youth-friendly, transparent, and secure elections in the State.
In other recommendations, he urged INEC to expand youth-focused voter education by deploying innovative and accessible voter education campaigns through social media, schools, faith-based institutions, and community town halls that speak directly to young people.
He also urged the electoral authorities to improve logistical access, enhance collaboration with youth-led organizations, and increase transparency and accountability.
He tasked security agencies to ensure safety and neutrality, prevent violence and intimidation, and strengthen public confidence through open communication before and during the election.
