Leadership is the cornerstone of every community, organization, or institution. The intent, vision, and decisions of a leader often determine the fate of the people he serves. This is why elections into leadership positions are not mere formalities but serious undertakings that attract wide interest and participation.
When a political candidate’s track record, built consistently over the years, speaks positively of him even before he declares interest in any position, it naturally builds trust and confidence among the people. Such credibility attracts massive support, as citizens are drawn not by empty promises but by proven character, competence, and integrity.
This assertion played out vividly at Amanuke Town in Awka North Local Government Area on Saturday, 31st January 2026, at Union Primary School field, where indigenes of Amanuke Kingdom turned out in large numbers to elect their new President‑General.

Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, Ph.D., Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, found favor with his people and emerged victorious with 576 votes against 532 votes secured by his opponent, Hon. Simon Orakwe.
The election, conducted under the Option A4 voting model, attracted a huge turnout of Amanuke indigenes from far and near. It was monitored by officials of the State Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, the Anambra State Town Unions (ASTUC), and joint security operatives from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, DSS, NSCDC, among others.
Although accreditation and voting were peaceful, tension erupted after the counting and about proceeding to the announcement of results when supporters of Hon. Orakwe disrupted the proceedings. Security operatives had to intervene with gunshots and teargas to disperse the crowd and prevent escalation. Eventually, Comrade Odogwu was declared winner, having polled the majority votes.

His supporters, in a wave of joy and solidarity, marched through the community singing victory songs. The massive crowd, comprising youths, elders, parents, and children, was a testament to the people’s unwavering trust in Dr. Odogwu’s leadership.
The election followed the expiration of the tenure of the former President‑General, Mr. Samuel Okoye, in August 2025. By zoning arrangement, Umudiogo village was next to produce the PG, hence the contest between Odogwu and Orakwe, both from the same village.
Villagers expressed confidence in Dr. Odogwu’s capacity to transform Amanuke. Mr. Obinna Raphael from Oraukwu Village emphasized that votes should not be influenced by money but by competence, noting that Odogwu has the ability to attract dividends of development. Hon. Ejike King Ejike (Udu Amanuke) also highlighted Odogwu’s credibility, urging youths to shun bribery and embrace good governance.
Chief Servant Ejiofor Augustine, a human rights activist, described Odogwu’s victory as divine, assuring that Amanuke’s hospitals, schools, and infrastructure would thrive under his leadership.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Odogwu expressed gratitude to the people for their confidence, describing his victory as a collective mandate to reposition Amanuke for unity, peace, and development. He pledged transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness, calling on his opponent and supporters to join hands for the progress of the town.

This is a collective win for our community. There is no victor and no vanquished. I call on my brother and opponent to work with us so that together we can move Amanuke forward,” he said.
The election at Amanuke was more than a contest of numbers; it was a referendum on integrity, vision, and trust. By choosing Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, the people of Amanuke affirmed their desire for purposeful leadership and progressive governance. His victory symbolizes not just change, but a renewed hope that Amanuke Kingdom will rise to greater heights under a leader whose track record, character, and commitment speak louder than promises.
