1,297 corps members end orientation course in Abia

At least 1,297 corps members posted to Abia for the 2023 Batch ‘C’ Stream I Orientation Course completed the mandatory three-week training programme on Tuesday.

The State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Ufuoma Dick-Iruenabere, disclosed this at the closing ceremony held at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Umunna, Bende Local Government Area.

Dick-Iruenabere said that the corps members comprised 647 males and 650 females.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the orientation course content involved physical training, drills, lectures on the people and tradition of the host state, among others.

The state NYSC boss, who attested to the high level of discipline exhibited by the corps members during the training, commended them for their patriotism and dedication.

She charged them to continue in such a manner throughout their service year and beyond.

Dick-Iruenabere also urged them to get integrated into the communities, learn their language,  culture and norms and avoid their taboos.

“Let me not belabour you with the fact that you must take your post camp Skills Acquisition and Entreprenueship Developmentq training very seriously.

“The in-camp hands-on training you received is just an introduction, hence, your enrollment into the post camp training is one sure way of perfecting what you started in camp,” she said.

The Abia Governor, Dr Alex Otti, congratulated the corps members and urged them to accept their posting in good faith and come up with creative ideas that would be a lasting legacy to their host communities.

Otti, represented by Dr Ken Kezie, Director, Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, said that “Abia people are hospitable and very receptive to visitors”.

He said: “We are ready to partner, even to sponsor Community Development Projects that may be initiated by corps members, all in a bid to accelerate the development of our state.

“We will not only partner NYSC in this direction, we shall also reward and bestow on corps members, state honours awards, as a reward for imparting on our people,” (NAN)
