Youths donate face masks, hand sanitisers to Police, orphanage in Anambra

Youths under the eargies of Anambra Youths Empowerment Initiative (AYEI), donated hundreds of hand sanitisers and face masks to the Nigeria Police, Anamnra state command.

The group also visited some orphanage and motherless babies homes in the state where similar personal Protective Equipment (PPE) were also presented to caregivers working in those homes.

The gesture was part of the group’s cooperate social responsibility aimed at containing the spread of Corona virus pandemic in the state.

Presenting the items to the Commissioner of Police, Anambra state command, CP John Abang in his office, the National President of the youth Organization, Hon. Nduka Alor expressed concern at the rate of spread of the novel disease in the country and called on Nigerians to adhere strictly to all the precautionary measures by medical experts.

He noted that the PPE being presented to Nigeria police was to encourage them in the tedious task of implementing government directive of policing the land borders in the state to forestall inter-state movement of people.

Nduka, however regretted that in less than one month, the index cases across the country had doubled and called on people to observe the social distancing and other expertise advice to further check the spread of the pandemic.

He further explained that AYEI is a Non-Governmental and Community based Youth Organization domiciled in the 21 Local Government Areas of the state with the mandate of empowering the Youths towards improving their socio-economic status through impacts based programs such as education, civil advocacy, entrepreneurship and skills development.

According to him, “Since the outbreak of this pandemic, AYEI, through it’s sensitization network has been training the youths on actions and preventive remedies on COVID-19 which is in line with their vision of creating awareness and sensitization programs on health issues.

” We are not unmindful of the onerous task of safeguarding our borders which the police is at the fore front in its implementation.

“So, we are here to show gratitude and support to men and officers of this command. It’s a huge risk and sacrifice but only God can reward you and your men” he said.

Receiving the items, the CP, John Abang, who was visibly happy with the gesture. thanked the group for remembering the Command, saying that he’s saddened at the rate of devastation, suffering the Covid-19 pandemic has subjected people to, especially the economic meltdown.

He also reminded citizens on the need to constantly maintain the WHO and NCDC standards on personal and environmental hygiene.
