WOWICAN Idemili South Charges Women to Mentor Youths, Invest in Boy Child
The Christian Association of Nigeria Women Wing (WOWICAN), Idemili South Chapter, Anambra State, has urged women to take up the responsibility of mentoring the younger generation and deliberately invest in the proper upbringing of the boy child. The Coordinator of WOWICAN Idemili South, Mrs. Adamaka Nwachukwu, made the call on Sept. 7, while addressing women at the chapter’s convention held at St. Simon Anglican Church, Nnobi.
Speaking on the theme, “Preserving the Truth in a Compromised Age,” Mrs Nwachukwu urged women to uphold truth and Christian values even when societal pressure encourages compromise. She cautioned against idolatry, fetishism, syncretism, the pursuit of alternative sources of power and excessive materialism, stressing that practices that have become common in society should not be allowed to determine the standard of Christian conduct.
The Guest Speaker, Evang. Josephine Silas, also challenged the women to remain committed to truth, integrity, faith and sound moral values despite the growing negative influences in contemporary society. Evang. Silas emphasised that nation-building begins in the home, urging mothers to be intentional in raising their children and to pay particular attention to their moral and spiritual development, especially the boy child.
Also speaking, Hon. K. K. Ezekwelu, urged the women to closely monitor the conduct and lifestyle of their male children, particularly those who may be involved in internet fraud, popularly known as “Yahoo.” Hon. Ezekwelu warned that the pursuit of quick wealth through fraudulent activities could expose youths to serious consequences and urged parents to guide their children towards legitimate and productive avenues for achieving success.
He further advised the women to be properly guided in their participation in electoral activities, cautioning them against vote-buying and other forms of electoral malpractice. He also encouraged them to uphold honesty, integrity and responsible civic participation in their communities.
The convention featured prayer sessions, praise and worship, presentation of the coordinator’s address, cake cutting and thanksgiving. Among those who attended were the Spiritual Father of the Day, Rev. Canon Henry Nwachukwu; PFN Chairman, Idemili South, Rev. Clement Okechukwu; PFN Chairman, Nnobi Ward, Pastor Vincent Arinze among others.
