Women Commend Soludo’s Wife For Quick Intervention On Septuagenarian

The Obeagu-Orofia Abagana women have commended Anambra Governor’s Wife, Nonye Soludo, for the quick intervention given to a 75 years old Mrs Theresa Nwokaka, allegedly beaten by her daughter, Mrs Ukamaka Udugbo.

Mrs Eunice Anagor, President of Women Wing of Obeagu-Orofia Abagana village gave the commendation in an interview with the Newsmen on Thursdays in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Anagor said that the video clip of where Udugbo was allegedly seen beating her mother went viral on July 15, which caused lots of uproar in the community and across the country which led to her arrest by policemen attached to the community.

“The Women of Obeagu-Orofia were disheartened over the uncommon act of Udugbo and demanded to know the reasons behind such heinous act.

”Women were elated over the quick intervention of the government especially the governors wife, which made the community to watch with close look to know the outcome of government involvement.

“Every one that watch the video clip where Udugbo was flogging, pouring water and kicking her mother was moved by empathy and wondered reasons behind the heinous act.

“Our joy is full at the intervention of Mrs Ify Obinabo, the Commissioner of Women Affairs, Social Welfare and Child Development, who stepped in and changed the narrative, She knows her work well.

“Nwokaka had been taken to hospital for medical care and all expenses had been taken care of and was discharged from the hospital on July 18, now enjoying the ambience of her new home courtesy of the governors wife.

Speaking further, She said that the wife of the governor also provided a mobility aid wheel chair for the aged woman with a promise to oversee her welfare by the ministry visit to confirm her stability.

“We have enjoyed this favour from the government, and has resolved that our only way to return gratefulness is to key into government policies and programmes that falls within our capability.

“We have seen government and felt it as a working government whose eyes roves around the state even to rural areas and ensure that we enlighten our young wives and girl child on basic family values to checkmate the ugly incident from reoccurance”She said.

She also commended Mr Jude Akpua, the Lawmaker representing Njikoka 11 constituency in the State House of Assembly, the Community Chairman, All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), the Divisional Police Officer(DPO)in Abagana, SP Ifeanyi Umeh, and the woman ASP, Tina Agu, in charge of police juvenile welfare centre for their professional prowess.

She called on other wealthy people in the community to come to their aid financially,so as to sustain the government help by ensuring good care for the woman and even to start up a little trade for her son Emeka to guarantee her care.

Mrs Nkem Okafor, neighbour of the victim Nwaokaka said that the quick intervention of the government and other people have yielded great difference, that the woman can now respond to compliments than before when she cannot talk and called on all of us who enjoyed one favour or the other to remember Mama now”, She added.

The Njikoka Local Government Transition Chairman Chief Clem Aguiyi described the incident as a taboo, stated that the council intends to act beyond the present circumstances.

He also said that the Council will take a deep thought and come up with sustainable actions to abridge such occurance in the community.
