Wike Unmoved by Criticism, Insists Insecurity Must Not Be Politicised
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has doubled down on his comments regarding the recent abducti0n of pupils and teachers in Oyo State, insisting that he stands by his position and is not concerned by criticisms.
Wike made the remark while responding to reactions that followed his comments during a protest by teachers and civil society groups demanding the rescue of v!ctims k!dnapped during the May 15 att@ck on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. During the protest, the minister urged Nigerians not to politicise ins£curity, arguing that security challenges should be treated as a collective national concern rather than a political issue.
Addressing the backlash that followed, Wike maintained that his comments were appropriate and said he would not retract them. According to him, he remains committed to the view that ins£curity should not be exploited for political gains, stressing that the government and security agencies are working to secure the release of the abduct£d teachers and students.
The minister also expressed confidence in the efforts of security agencies, stating that authorities are doing everything possible to rescue the v!ctims and restore public confidence in the country’s security system. He emphasized that the k!dnapping of citizens is a matter that concerns all Nigerians and requires a united response.
The Oyo school abducti0n, which involved dozens of pupils and teachers, sparked nationwide outrage and protests by education stakeholders who demanded urgent action from the government.
