WALSA UNIZIK First Impactful Session Encourages Students

The Nnamdi Azikiwe University West African Law Students Association ( UNIZIK-WALSA), held it’s first ever conference and debate competition on Friday 28th November 2025, in the Faculty of Law where speakers were invited, prizes were given to winners of the debate competition, persons were awarded with certificates and awards. The programme featured Udoka Anita Ikebuwa, founder of Pad A Girl foundation; Ebuka Igwe, House of Assembly Member; Ochuba Samuel, SUG President NAU; Chiedozie Nwogwugu, SUG fin-sec NAU; Chibuike Okoli, Campus Director WALSA UNIZIK; Wisdom Ategwu, SUG Attorney General NAU; and other dignitaries.

The CLASFON President said an opening prayer followed by a welcome address by the Campus Director WALSA UNIZIK. He appreciated the presence of the invited , the individuals who would have loved to grace the event with their presence but couldn’t, and all those who contributed in organizing a conference that was just an idea few months ago. He further described the confrence and debate competition as a stage that exemplifies the team and lay a foundation for debaters and legal minds.

The keynote speaker Udoka Ikebuwa in her opening speech explained Legacy as a title left when we are gone or dead, she gave instances of people who build legacy for themselves and that legacy still strives till today. She uses her story to buttress on the topic of Legacy, where she got married in her early 20’s ” the marriage did not last long because of domestic violence, and i had to leave even though i was five months gone. I gave birth and my mother took the child and asked me to go back to school “. She explained how she made good use of her second chance by creating a foundation that made pads available to young girls. She stated ” To build your legacy you must first understand that nobody owes you anything” gave a list of various characteristics that a person should have in order to build Legacy.

The representative of Idemili South, Hon. Ebuka Igwe in his speech talked on law being the best course to study in school as it lays a foundation for understanding every sphere of life. He uses himself as an example as he had to struggle to get what he wanted after graduation from studying law in UNIZIK in 2008 and started building a legacy for himself. He advised students to get first and second degree and appreciated the organizers

With a panel of good judges, continuous debate rounds and rigorous trainings, the winners of the debate competition comprised of Team 3 in first place, team 4 in second place, team 2 in 3rd place with each granted certificates and awarded prizes. Bonuses were gotten from various dignitaries present. An award was given to the best deliverer, Chidera Ameachi who scored a total of 166.

Furthermore, awards were given to invited dignitaries and a paper presentation was done by Obinna Okeke, a UNIZIK Student in the department of History and International Relations where he explained democratic trends on West African States. He explained how “democracy does not equal to stability, stability can come from any form of government “

Chisom Ezeukwu a 100 level law student described the event as being educative and impactful. She explained that the speakers impactec her, especially the keynote speaker who encouraged her to be consistent and confident in whatever she is doing.

Promise Nzubechukwu the National Attorney General of the National Association of Women Student Nigeria (NAWSN) a 300 level student of Faculty of law stated ” i was motivated by the behavioral characteristics of the WALSA-UNIZIK Director some of which are hardworking, consistency and humility”. She further expressed her joy towards the successful outcome of the event and learnt that for an person to build, he or she must be misunderstood.

Clem Ugochukwu a 300 level student stated that he was motivated by various adverts seen by him, and also the activeness of Mr Chibuike also known as season 6 . “When i saw he was the conveyer of this event, i knew it was going to be something of good quality”. The story of the CEO/founder of Pad A girl foundation who stepped away from domestic violence to build a legacy for herself was amazing, he quoted her saying “Even when you have NO’S you keep going ” and her messages on courage, boldness and discipline.

A closing prayer was done and professional pictures were taken.
