Voter Registration: Onitsha South LG Chairman's Aide Tours Wards, Commends INEC, Constituents

The Special Adviser to the Chairman of Onitsha South Local Government Area on Political Matters, Comrade Dunu Chiadikobi, has toured the ten wards in Fegge to monitor the ongoing voter’s registration exercise in the Area.

Speaking with journalist after the tour, Dunu commended Governor Charles Soludo for his efforts in development of the state. He also lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the constituents for their participation in the exercise.

The Special Adviser expressed his satisfaction on the turnout in all the wards they visited, noting that the challenges witnessed so far was in the first two days of the registration exercise due to the inability of the machines to open as a result of network issue.

According to him: “I have toured the 10 wards in Fegge and by tomorrow, I will visit the remaining seven wards in Odoakpu and Woliwo to complete the 17 wards in the area. I advise parents to ensure that their children and wards who are up to 18 years are registered because it is very important, not just for voting but for other national assignments.

The Councillor of Fegge 1 and the ward Chairman of Bridgehead 11, Hon Chidi Ogbuagu and Chinedu Echefuna corroborated Dunu on the fact that the exercise has some hitches on the first two days due to network issue but they stated that the exercise was moving smoothly since Thursday till date

Earlier, the chairman of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Onitsha South Local Government Area, Chief Uche Umeh, said that INEC is doing well but complained that more machines are needed or there should be extension of days for the registration because there will be massive turn out on Sunday and Monday when the people would be less free

Umeh said that the machines have been slow on the first two days especially the whole of Bridgehead wards but said it is working perfectly since yesterday, adding that more announcement would be done to remind those who have not registered to come forth for the exercise.

Contributing. the Chairmen of Woliwo Ward Seven and Fegge Ward three, Sir Ifenatuora Joachim and Kingsley Okafor respectively, stated that the exercise was moving fine in their wards, adding that the turnout has also been massive even from the first day of the exercise as a result of the announcement they made in the churches.

Okafor lauded the Mayor of Onitsha South Local Government. Hon.Chief Emeka Orji for his effort in ensuring smooth exercise in the area. He also reiterated their steadfast towards the ongoing registration exercise, adding that they are very happy for the turn out
