Vocational,Technical Educators In South-East Conference Ends In Awka
Association of Vocational and Technical Educators of Nigeria (AVTEN) Southeast Zone Holds its Maiden Zonal Conference In Grand Style, to highlight the imperatives of Vocational and Technical education in Nigeria. Educators, experts, professionals and industrialists under the aegis of the Association of Vocational and Technical Educators of Nigeria (AVTEN) Southeast Zone came together to deliberate on issues about their growth and sustainability.
The conference took place at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka with the theme, ‘Emerging issues in Vocational and Technical Education for sustainable workforce development’.
The convener of the conference and Vice President of the Association, Southeast zone Dr. Jacinta Ifeoma Obidile underscored the importance of stakeholders’ support in funding Vocational and Technical education so as to enhance the production of competent graduates who will help in the nation building.
According to Dr. Obidile, Vocational and Technical educators should equally update their teaching competencies through training and re-training so as to continually impact the necessary skills needed for self reliance to the students.
The convener thanked all the participants for their active participation at the conference.
The lead paper presenter and director Sandwich Unit of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Campus Prof. Constance Okoli urged the federal government to provide funds to drive the vocational and technical educators acquisition of digital skills to upgrade their knowledge.
Prof. Okoli urged all techno phobia teachers to upgrade their computer skills for their benefits and that of their students.
She further suggested that students engagement in industrial training exercises relevant to their disciplines and proper accreditation of VTE program in the country could enhance the productivity of graduates of the programmes.
Some of the awardees during the occasion include; Prof.Ogochukwu Ibeneme past Dean Faculty of Education, NAU, Prof. Anthonia Umezulike of the Faculty of Education Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu university, and Engr. Martins Esomonu of the Federal college of Education Technical Umunze among others expressed their delight in the honour given to them by the Association.
I think the federal government should fund and support vocational and technical education in schools, as it helps in producing competent and self relied graduates. And I must commend Dr Jacinta Ifeoma Obidile the convener of the conference, for stating the importance of vocational and technical education to the students and also advising the educators to update their teaching competence so as to help produce competent graduates in the country.
I think it the right of the federal government to support and fund vocational and technical education because it helps in producing competent and self reliance students
Wow, I applaud Dr. Ifeoma, having the a good mindset by stating how important vocational studies is to the students.
Government of Nigeria, should be of great help to support those in vocational education schools to enable them producing experts and professional graduates in the country.
