Users Narrate Experiences Following Collapse Of 3 Social Media Sites

Social media customers across the world were last Monday was thrown into frustration as three social networking sites abruptly shut down for hours.

Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram, all belonging to one parent company, owned by Mark Zuckerberg, did not function from around four o’clock in the evening to ten o’clock in the night, with financial analysts estimating a total loss of over six billion by the company as a result of the outage.

Correspondent Daniel Ezeigwe spoke to social media users on how they felt about the sudden incident.

Social media has become an indispensable platform for not just communication and reach-outs, but also for businesses and crucial meetings.

Billions of people across the world depend on these sites for both social and economic benefits, with a 2021 report ranking Facebook alone as the largest social media platform globally with two point eight-five billion monthly active users worldwide.

The hour-long outage, according to a social media user, Chinemerem Enwerem was a frustrating experience that left her stranded for hours.

For Mr Ejiofor Agbeze who heard about the discomforting incident from his son, shutting down without prior notice to billions of subscribers only made the incident more difficult and disappointing for mostly those whose businesses are powered by social media.

Other subscribers who spoke to the ABS, Amaka Onwuzuligbo and Charity Anioke, narrated their experiences throughout the period of the outage, and insisted that prior notice should have been made available for users to find alternative platforms to socialize.
