Urum, Awka North Council Area Gets New President General

Mr Aloysius Tabansi of Umuifie village has emerged the new President-General of Urum Community in Awka North Local Government Area.

He garnered a total of three hundred and fifty-four votes to emerge victorious while his opponent Mr Amaechi Obiesili got one hundred and fifty-three votes.

The election which took place at the field of Community Primary School Urum had both elderly men and youths present who came out en-masse to decide who will be their leader for the next three years.

The exercise, supervised by officials from the Anambra state Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs led by Head of Department, Office of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr Tony Okafor, and Nigeria Police Force also led to the emergence of Mr Anthony Obiorah as the Vice President-General, Mr Anthony Arinze, Secretary General, Kenneth Osita, Assistant Secretary General, Agbafuna Agummadu, Treasurer, Abuchi Ezeigbo, Public Relations Officer, Lawrence Nwoye, Financial Secretary, and Joseph Enemuo, Provost.

Declaring the winner of the election, the Chairman Urum President-General election 2020, Professor Paul Oraekie reminded the people of Urum the need to prioritize the development and progress of the community over the outcome of the election and join hands to make the Urum great and better.

In their various interviews, some members of the community including the immediate past President General of Urum community, Chief Matthew Nwodo, Chief Obikwelu Nnametamma, and Mr Emmanuel Okafor adjudged the election the most peaceful in the community so far, and called on the new executive to device means of making the community more peaceful, attracting development, and settling issue between the Urum and the neighbouring community.

The President-General elect, Mr Aloysius Tabansi thanked members of the community for finding him worthy for the position, and promised never to disappoint them, as according to him, his leadership is for all, as development and peace of the Urum community is the watchword, while the opponent, Chief Obiesili expressed displeasure on the outcome of the election and called for investigation into the election processes.

In an interview, the Head of Department, Office of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr Okafor rated comportment of Urum people during the election high, and asked other communities in the state to emulate such peaceful conduct during and after community elections.
