Uruagu Nnewi to Host 2026 Provincial Laity Convention …As Diocese on The Niger Council of Laity  Holds Elections

President, Province of the Niger Council of Laity and Diocese on the Niger President, House of Laity, Pharm Sir Chris Ukachukwu has announced that the 2026 Provincial Laity Convention is scheduled to hold at the Cathedral Church of St. Mary, Uruagu Nnewi, on Saturday July 4, 2026.

He said the Anglican Diocese of Nnewi is hosting the 2026 convention.

He appealed for co-operation from Churches and Archdeaconries to ensure that Diocese on the Niger makes a remarkable participation in the Conversation as always.

He called on Archdeaconry Laity Chairmen to ensure large turn out of their members to grace the Convention and also facilitate payment of their quota and other financial outstanding, both backlog and current, to enable the Diocese stand on a solid financial footing.

Meanwhile, this is coming as the Bishop on the Niger, Anglican Communion, His Lordship The Rt. Rev. Dr. Owen Nwokolo has given his episcopal consent for elections to be held at various levels in the House of Laity in the Diocese.

Presiding a monthly meeting of the Diocese on the Niger Council of Laity at Good Shepherd Anglican Church Oba, Saturday July 4, the Diocesan President, House of Laity Pharm Sir Chris Ukachukwu described the episcopal approval for the election cycle as a pedestal for the repositioning of the House of Laity in not only the Diocese, but also at various Churches, Parishes and Archdeaconries.

Sir Chris while appreciating the Bishop’s gesture said that what is needed most presently is an assembly of Laity Executives at all levels populated by people with zeal, commitment and compassion in bringing selfless service to the table.

Pharm Sir Ukachukwu requested the Clergy whose authorities hold sway in all Churches and Archdeaconries to lend a helping hand not only in ensuring that the elections bear the desired fruits of success by throwing up committed people but also to always take interest in the affairs of the Laity.

Describing the Laity as the pillar of the Church, the Laity President showed appreciation for the support the House has been receiving from the Clergy in the Diocese, calling for a continuation and further encouragement for the Laity to thrive.

Members of Oba Archdeaconry House of Laity made a special presentation to the President, DoN House of Laity, Sir Chris Ukachukwu as a token of appreciation and love for his unwaivering commitment to and sacrifice for a strong and vibrant Laity on the Niger.
