Unizik: TRCN Inducts Education Graduates Into Teaching Profession

In what could be described as an effort to professionalize teaching in Nigeria, the authorities of Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), on Thursday, July 13, 2023, inducted faculty of education students who have successfully completed their programmes in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

Prior to the 10th induction and oath-taking ceremony which took place at the University Auditorium, the inductees took a professional qualifying examination on June 9, 2023, organized by the Council.

The event also featured award presentations to distinguished, best students from each of the 10 departments that make up the Faculty of Education. Other distinguished personalities who have uncommon love for education, and have contributed to human capital development were also presented with a variety of awards, this writer gathered.

The event was chaired by the Former Provost, Federal College of Education, (Technical), Umunze, Prof Josephat Ogbuagu, while Prof. Romy Okoye delivered a lecture titled, “Teaching Profession in Nigeria: The Present Situation and Implications For National Development”.

In a remark, the University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu, congratulated the inductees and charged them to be worthy ambassadors of the teaching profession and institution.

Professor Olusegun Josiah Ajiboye, who is the TRCN Registrar, during the administering of the oath, told his audience to live out the tenets of the teaching profession, which, according to him, was hinged on excellence, ethical practice, dedication, and selfless service. The Anambra State TRCN Coordinator, Lady Rosemary Chinelo Otikpa, who accompanied the national leaders of the Council to the induction exercise, commended the graduates for maintaining a decorum throughout the exercise.

Earlier, the Dean, Faculty of Education, Prof Vivian Nwogbo, reminded the inductees that teaching is a noble profession, and should count themselves as lucky to be professionally certified teachers.

In addition to the award presentations to the best students, Chief Hon. Law Ezennia Achebe, Ichie Amb Chris Ugochukwu Onyekwelu, Chief Jonas N. Okafor, Chief Emmanuel Ezeji, Chief Christopher Mmadubuobi, Chief Paul Nweke Omofia, Chief (Amb) Jeffery Uchenna Ubah, Hon. Sam Chinedu Onwuaso and Dr. Obiora Lawrence Okechukwu, were presented with different awards for their outstanding support to educational development, community service and societal growth.
