Dr. Uche C. Ngenegbo, the Director of Business Ventures and Consultancy Services, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, has said the establishment of Golf Course, Ultra modern Guest House and and other relaxation centres would mark the institution out as a relaxation hub in South-East, Nigeria.

The Vice-Chancellor , Prof Charles Okechukwu Esimone FAS, recently flagged off construction of a commercial Golf Course, Shopping Mall ,a Guest House and other projects that would not only serve the University guests but provide relaxation spots for the University community, friends and visitors who are lovers of gulf sport and who desire genuine relaxation after stressful work days.

The Unizik Director Business Ventures and Consultancy Services, Dr Ngenegbo, who informed that the projects are ongoing, stated that such would also provide economic support for the institution challenged by poor financial strength and funding.

www.odogwublog.com reports that a golf course is the ground where the sport of golf is played. It consists of a series of holes, each consisting of a tee box, a fairway, the rough and other hazards, and a green with a cylindrical hole in the ground, known as a “cup”. The cup holds a flagstick, known as a “pin”. A standard round of golf consists of 18 holes.

According to Dr Ngenegbo, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka has mapped out a huge portion of field considered for the construction of the golf course. He said such establishment is capable of turning the institution to a centre of attraction and a centre where busy individuals could adopt for their relaxation.

He said: “Most golf courses contain 18 holes; some share fairways or greens, and a subset has nine holes, played twice per round. The golf course to be established in the institution would contain 18 holes which would be able to generate resources for our school.”

Discussing the level of preparedness of the school to embark on such project, the UNIZIK Director of Business Ventures and Consultancy Services noted that it was the interest of the University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Charles Okechukwu Esimone, FAS to have the sports established in the institution. He said investors had been approached and Memorandum of Understanding signed for the completion of the project.

” Our Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Esimone is the type of person that cherish hardwork and apart from expecting people to work hard, wants to give them proper relaxation for active functioning of their health. When he was thinking of how best to improve health of his staff and individuals in the university community, his mind ran across the Golf Course.

” He made enquiries on the idea of a golf course, discussed it and it is done. An investor was invited and he carefully engaged in the actions of erecting a deserving Golf course that will serve the whole school, visitors of the school and even the world at large.

“The investors have inspected the fields, and commented that we have one of the best structures that can favour the golf course and that will be sited anywhere in the school. They identified features that the school has like the Monkees, trees and the waterlogged areas as needful for the game.

The Golf Course on completion would also provide good source of Internally Generated Revenue, IGR for the institution. Apart from relaxing people mentally, generally, all holes would be sold. Investors may offer to buy the holes and if the institution is able to do up to 18 holes, could be good for IGR. There is also the possibility of establishing golf club where people pay for membership, dues to the institution.

www.odogwublog.com also reports that, a 100 room UNIZIK Guest House was recently flagged-off for construction within the school environment by the Vice Chancellor Prof Charles Okechukwu Esimone FAS. Upon completion, the Guest house would help examiners who periodically visit the school to relax ahead of their various assignments. “When they come, we usually keep them outside the school and far away from where they will deliver their primary assignment which is not good because in such movement, an important examination or document could be lost,” Dr. Ngenegbo stated.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor , Administration, Prof Joseph Ikechebelu had in an interview with www.odogwublog.com confirmed the vision of the Vice-Chancellor Prof Charles Okechukwu Esimone FAS to ensure Unizik represents well the image of the great Zik of Africa , Owelle of Onitsha, Right Hon Nnamdi Azikiwe in all its standing, hence the all round development ongoing in the university as the university of the moment.
