UNIZIK MATRICULATION CEREMONY: Engage in exam malpractice, cultism, risk expulsion – Unizik VC, Prof Esimone

It was a moment of joy for fresh students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka as the long awaited matriculation ceremony was held Friday amidst pomp and ceremony.

Addressing the students during the 2023 Matriculation ceremony of the university the Vice-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Prof Charles Okechukwu Esimone FAS warned students to shun exam malpractice, cultism and other vices capable of earning them expulsion from the university as the university has zero tolerance for vices.

Dean, Faculty of Education, Prof Vivian Nwogbo who represented the Vice-Chancellor warned that any failure to observe the university’s rules and regulations may lead to expulsion with a letter written to directly to the defaulting student’s parents.

Although the Matriculation ceremony was postponed from the 6th of June to the 16th of June due to the strike intention declared by the Nigerian Labor Congress over hike in fuel pump price, the students had their fun.

It was a remarkable day marked with beauty, joy, and laughter for the entire institution even as the school environment came to live with different decorations by various faculties to mark the day.

Parents, siblings and loved ones of the celebrants flooded the place to join the newly admitted students celebrate the remarkable event that marked a new beginning for year one students of the university.

The lecturers and matriculants dressed in their gowns and marched into to their respective faculty’s stations to start the ceremony. The event started with the national and faculty anthem followed by an opening prayer.

Addressing the students further, the Dean, Faculty of Education, Prof Nwagbo said: “UNIZIK is a school of good repute, over the years it was ranked as the 10th best university in the country. We are working hard to instill good behavior in all of you for the school, your parents and our reputation”.

After telling them what the university stands for and how its good reputation precedes it every where in the country, she admonished them to desist from any act that will tarnish the good reputation of the school, their parents and lecturers.

She explained the do’s and don’ts of the university and the consequences for breaking the law or engaging in any form of misconduct.

Prof Nwogbo introduced the 10 Heads of Departments in the faculty to the matriculants and in turn, presented the new students HoD’s.

This was a sign that the faculty had fully taken the students under its wing and that the students acknowledge the lecturers as their guardians, promising to humble themselves under it rules during their stay in the institution.

The students took an oat to obey all the school rules and regulations and to take full responsibility when being punished for any form of misconduct.

At the end of the ceremony, the matriculants danced out their hearts, expressing their joy of being UNIZIK’s undergraduate student.

The students engaged in various games set up in the environment and enjoyed themselves to the fullest as it was a day of love, joy and laughter for every person present at the ceremony. Refreshments of all kinds were brought and shared by family members to their loved ones and well wishers who joined them in celebrating this remarkable moment.
Pictures were taken with friends and family alike to document this unforgettable and memorable event and the crowd slowly dispersed with smiles on their faces.
