UNIZIK ‘ll say goodbye to EEDC with it’s Dam project – Dr Ngenegbo

The era of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka paying exorbitant charges to the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, will be gone once the proposed power generating Dam in the institution is completed.

This was disclosed to www.odogwublog.com correspondent by the UNIZIK Director, Business Ventures and Consultancy Services, Dr Uche Ngenegbo in an interview in his office weekend.

Speaking on the proposed project, Dr Ngenegbo who is a consultancy expert said the institution has agreed on a Public Private Partnership, PPP, with an investor that will see to the start and completion of the power project.

According to Dr Ngenegbo, upon completion, the dam will be a source that will power the entire administrative blocks of the institution. He even mentioned that the many hostels within the school would not be left out as beneficiaries of the electricity that the dam will generate.

His words: ” We have Dam that will generate electricity for the school. We have ran studies on the little stream that cut across the school for a while and discovered that the stream, even in the harmattan, flows and the depth, speed can generate current for the entire school. We approached an investor and an MoU was signed for the project. In no distant time, the institution will be enjoying uninterrupted power from the dam.”

He noted that at completion of the project, it will not only provide constant electricity to the whole university community but will also help the institution save the hefty bill it pays to EEDC on a monthly basis, which will in turn help the institution divert the cost to developmental project within or around the campus.

He said such innovation had been the dreams of the current Vice – Chancellor Prof Charles Okechukwu Esimone FAS through his project 200 Vision for the university.

He said such feat will be a landmark achievement and would score the university higher over many other universities in Africa.

He said the Vice-Chancellor is a man of capacity who has continued to use his visionary mind to transform the university where it would be ranked among the first grade universities of the world.

www.odogwublog.com recalls that Prof Charles Esimone administration has brought about total revamping of the university system and development. He recently flagged off 17 projects which not only brought massive development of the school but also placed the institution high above other universities of Africa.

He thanked the Governing Council and management of the university for the resolution to Champion a better learning environment for the staff and students through the Consultancy Services supervised by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof Joseph Ikechebelu.
