UNIZIK GIFTS FOOD ITEMS TO INMATES OF NCoS ANAMBRA STATE COMMAND.
The Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Prof. Charles Esimone and the management team of the university, in their continued partnership with the Nigerian Correctional Service Anambra State Command, have made a donation of 100 (25kg) bags of rice, 10 cartons of tomatoes and 3 cartons of vegetable oil, to the inmates of the four Custodial Centres in the state.
The Ag. Head, Information and Public Relations of the institution, Mrs. Chika Gladys Ene, while presenting the items on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, said that this is their own way of complementing the Federal Government’s effort in providing for the needs of persons in incarceration and showing them love in order to promote smooth integration on discharge.
Receiving the items, the Controller of Corrections Anambra State Command, Pat Chukwuemeka fsi, thanked the VC and his management team for their benevolence and show of love.
He further appealed to the Vice Chancellor to consider sending some of their lecturers and/or interns to, on pro bono basis, help in tutoring and preparing the inmates for semester and degree exams.
Recall that one of the mandates of the Correctional Service is to reform the inmates. This mandate ,the present administration led by the Controller General of Corrections Haliru Nababa, mni, has a penchant for, and is determined to impact the inmates under his watch with requisite knowledge which will equip them, as well as prepare them to be good citizens upon release.
Anambra State Command of the Service, has primary and secondary schools, including a university centre, where inmates access free education.
The Command has produced over 300 inmate’s school certificate holders, and over 5 degree holders, a master’s degree holder and a PhD student, while many of them are enrolled into various undergraduate programmes.
The Controller finally prayed God Almighty to bless and prosper the donors beyond their expectations.
