UNIZIK: Bianca Ojukwu, Hon Ayika, Akpamgbo , Igwe, Others Honored at Faculty of Law Maiden Alumni Reunion

Former Nigeria Ambassador to Spain and wife of late Biafra Warlord, Bianca Ojukwu,
former Attorney General of the federation under Babangida
 Sir Clement Akpamgbo SAN, and Hon Val Anyika, member House of Representatives as well as Ebonyi Deputy Governor Dr Kelechi Igwe have been recognized as distinguished personalities by the Unizik Law faculty alongside fourteen other awardees.

The Award came at the maiden reunion of the Alumni of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Law Faculty/ Anambra State University of Technology (ASUTECH) at the OMA Event Centre, Awka with other notable awardees including: former Vice Chancellor Unizik, Prof. Ilochi A. Okafor, SAN, Prof. Chris N. Okeke, Prof. Chuks Okpalauba, Prof. Z. C. Anyaogu, Prof. J. M. Elegido, Miss. Chikodili Obianyo, Mrs. Chinelo Eruchalu, Mr Alex Ekwuaju, Mr. Henry Ibeziako, Mr. Magnus Chima and Chief Engr. John-Bosco Onunkwo who received Special Award for Youth Empowerment.

However, Prof. SNC. Obi, Dr. J. C. Ikenga-Metu, and  Chief C. O. Akpamgbo SAN received Posthumous awards respectively.
Addressing the participants, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Meshach N. Umenweke described Alumni Association as an association of people who passed through an educational institution. He said the Law Faculty has imparted sound legal knowledge that has nourished all who passed through it.

Prof. Umenweke stressed that Alumni Association has become a veritable pedestal of beneficial interaction between ex-students and their Alma mater, adding that it enables people share friendship, receive invaluable professional assistance and social solidarity.

He said that the Alumni is the ears, eyes, hands and feet for the peace, order and development of their alma mater even as the current students stand to gain mentorship through creating funds for indigent students, endowment of courses and acts as role models that motivate and illumine their way to excellence.

Delivering his keynote address on the Intrinsic Value of Alumni Association, the Judge, Customary court of Appeal, Enugu state, Hon. Justice Emmanuel Nnamani reminded the participants how the pioneers of the faculty passed through the rigorous terrain to attend lectures even as there was paucity of  seats, poor transportation networks and the failure of the faculty to be accredited as a result of  failure to meet the accreditation requirements of the council of legal education.

Justice Nnamani however, urged the current students of the faculty to take a cue from the pioneering of efforts of the earliest students and be encouraged that the future is bright, provided they put up positive efforts.

Meanwhile, the UNIZIK Vice Chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone, in his welcome address, commended the efforts at conceiving and bringing to fruition the maiden reunion of the Law Faculty adding that the faculty has churned out Law graduates who occupy prominent positions across the country.

He charged the alumni to engage in furthering the development of the university in general and faculty of Law in particular, aside from providing a network for socializing among the alumni.
All professors and lecturers in law faculty attended the event.

No fewer than fifteen (15) Judges who are Alumni of Faculty of Law, Nnamdi Azikiwe University ,Awka attended the two day event which started with a maiden Reunion/Home coming Cocktail party at Sir Clement Akpamgbo, SAN Faculty of Law Building, at the University attended by prominent lawyers and Alumni including former Anambra state lawmaker Okonkwo Okom.

 Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano was the Chief Guest of Honour while Prof Luke Anike, Vice Chancellor of ESUT was the Chairperson on the occasion, and  Jachike Ogu Esq presented a paper.

Dr MVC Ozioko, chairman local organizing committee, and his team, Dr BE Ewulum ,secretary of local organizing committee as well as other members Barr Philip Chinwuba and Barr Philip Ekwempu were grateful on the success of the event.
