Umuchigbo beats Abakpa 3-0 at Coal City Football League Final in Enugu

Umuchigbo team on Monday defeated Abakpa team 3-0 to emerge champions of the second edition of Coal City Football League (Boolu Ogbe) in Enugu.

The league was organised by GOFEC Movies Industry, in conjunction with Zenith Bank PLC of Nigeria, Enugu State Football Association (ESFA) and the Enugu State Ministry of Youths and Sports.

At the final match played inside the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC) stadium on Monday, Uzor Nwabueze opened scoring for Umuchigbo in the ninth minute.

Divine Nwachukwu made it 2-0 in the 36th minute before Nwabueze completed his brace in the 51st minute.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Achara Layout team won the fair-play trophy and Umuchigbo swept other personal accolades.

Victor Nnaji of Umuchigbo won the Best Goalkeeper of the competition award, Divine Nwachukwu, also of Umuchigbo won the highest goal scorer award for his four goals.

NAN reports that the League which started on September 12 with 15 teams ended on Dec. 20.

The former Super Eagles Players, Solomon Okoronkwo, praised the league organisers and said it is what the players need.

According to him, this League is called Boolu Ogbe and it is leaving up to its name as participation is reserved for teams from the streets of Enugu metropolis.

“I am happy to be here because, we all started from the streets and by God’s grace, I will help some of the players to get connection.

“Some of the players are good and with determination and discipline, they can take their game to a higher level,” Okoronkwo said.

“The final was graced by the Enugu State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Manfred Nzekwe, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, the coordinator of the Police Campaign Against Cultism And Other Vices (POCACOV), ASP Ebere Amaraizu, and some former Super Eagles players. (NAN)
