UK University VC Suspended After Allegations of Affair, Whistleblown by Nigerian Wife

Prof. James Tooley, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Buckingham, has been suspended following allegations of an affair with a young woman from Hyderabad, India. The woman, now in her 20s, claims she had a sexual relationship with the 65-year-old professor, though Tooley has denied the accusations. The allegations surfaced after Tooley’s wife, Cynthia, a Nigerian immigrant, submitted copies of the woman’s diaries to the university. In the diaries, the woman described her relationship with Tooley, which reportedly began after he financially assisted her with her university fees. Cynthia, who met Tooley when she was 18, had been married to him for many years. She revealed that their relationship began when she was in her early 20s. Prof. Tooley, who took over as Vice-Chancellor in 2020, strongly refutes the claims, describing them as “baseless and malicious” and expressing confidence that he will be “vindicated.”
