Twitter On Fire: As UK’s Parliamentarian’s Discloses Gowon Stole Half Of CBN.

By Rowlandgate.

Few hours of today, a video erupted online as UK’s Parliament disclosed the alleged looting by former Head of State of Nigeria, Major General Gowon.

In the video, the parliamentarian, Mr James Duddridge who is a British representative for Africa, talked about how the wealth of a country have been used by a few persons in the likes of the former Head of State, Major General Gowon who stole half of the money in Central Bank of Nigeria and took it their country for hiding. He also said that some persons are currently in that same trend as they have stolen from the wealth of the great nation and are hiding the money in their country. Odogwublog.com

The parliamentarian said, “What we are seeing in Nigeria today is part of that story. It is a tragedy we are all witnessing because we see things falling apart.

“The problem this time is not foreign pressure known as colonialism. The pressure instead is corruption and violence and attempts at control (of power).

“We need to call out the corruption, we need to use the powers that we have in this country to stop those who are profiting from the wealth of that great nation and hiding it here.

“Now some people will remember when general Gowon left Nigeria, he took half of the Central Bank, so it is said, and moved to London.

“We know today, even now in this great city of ours, there are sadly some people who have taken the wealth of Nigerian people and hidden their ill-gotten gains here.

“We know that our banks sadly have been used for that profit or that illegal transfer of asset and that means that the UK is in a unique position in being able to actually do something to really exert pressure on those who have robbed Nigerians”, he said.

Following this report, Nigerians on Twitter have reacted, as they express shock over the disclosure made by the UK Parliamentarian. Some Nigerians are however, saying that it’s a false allegation since he left the sit without any evidence of money laundering and that has been so for four decades now.

Reactions of Nigerians as Regards the Trending Hashtag, Gowon.

This allegations was disclosed following the sanctions the UK is planning on giving Nigerian Government for their involvement together with the Nigerian Army in the killings of the #EndSARS peaceful and unarmed protesters at Lekki Toll Gate, Lagos State.

CNN, one of the United States media house, took the situation into their hands and did several investigations and questioning. The bullet cases found in the protest ground was also analyzed, which all led to the involvement of the Nigerian Army in the killing of dozens of these protesters.

However, the Federal Government have fired back at the media House, saying that they will be sanctioned as revealed by the Minister of Information, Lia Mohammed.

Several theories have been given by the Federal Government as regards the Aftermath of the protest and killings in Lekki Toll Gate even as we await the final results from the panel set out by the Federal Government. First, they said no one was murdered, then later that some persons were actually killed but not by the Nigerian Soldiers.

There were also theories that the Nigerian Army used rubber bullets and then the recent revelation by the Minister of Information, Lia Mohammed who said that the protesters used local guns at the Nigerian soldiers.

We should not forget that a former Head of State, Abacha was also involved in looting the nation’s money and up until this moment, the money is stilled been searched for, as he hid it in banks located outside the country.

Now, the case of Gowon is ongoing. With half of Central Bank of Nigeria’s money stolen by this former Head of State, why won’t the Nigerian Government keep on borrowing from other countries and international banks?.

I believe that more persons are still taking what belongs to the masses for their personal and family use. This present Government, in their 2015 campaign told the people that they will fight corruption to the very last and since then we have seen a number of politicians who have been probed concerning funds allocated to them which were not put into use.

It’s a shame that the country is in this shape and yet, someone in the name of a politician will continue to loot such huge amount of money from the Nation’s bank for his/her personal use.
