A Catholic cleric, Rev. Fr. PaulMary Otukpe, has advised Nigerians to emulate the spirit of unity exhibited in the three persons in one God, also known as “Trinity”.

Fr. Otukpe, Assistant Parish Priest, Saints Joachim and Anne Catholic church, Ijegun, Ikotun spoke during the Church service on Sunday in Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Catholic Faithful across the world today commemorated the Trinity Sunday, immediately after the Pentecost celebration.

According to him, ”Trinity is supposed to be the identity as Catholics, Christians, Muslims or every other religion that believe in God because He is the perfect symbol of unity.”

He said the Blessed Trinity, though three different persons but bonded, wanted man to love one another because anyone who did not love was not of God.

“When there is love, there should be no destruction, no violence, no pleasure in the destruction of another, no fighting of another because of differences.

” It is a symbol of togetherness,  fellowship with one another, unity, bond, peace, learning to share, being gracious to your neighbour, ” he said.

The cleric added that emulating the Trinity, unity in God did not give room to tribalism, religious segregation, saying such attributes were only evil injections in the society.

” It’s not all about being a Muslim or Christian, Yoruba, Hausa, Ibo, whatever tribe, It’s about coming together in love.

” Let us stop extorting monies from another if we truly have love, let there be truthfulness, let there be tolerance and our society would grow.

“The earlier we denounce these bad traits, we shall progress as a family, as a community, as a nation and as a world at large,” he said.

He urged everyone to see themselves as image created by God and not instruments that should be destroyed by evil men and women. (NAN)
