Hezekiah Okoro Nweje was an Anglican priest.A native of Onitcha in Anambra state.
He was born in 1919 and died in 1962.
He was nicknamed “Holy Nweje” because of his very humble, extreme righteous and humanitarian life that he lived.
He was highly devoted to the things of God.Every gift that he receives in the church, he immediately shares to the poor and the needy in the society.
He was nominated as the Bishop of Niger but he declined saying he is not worthy🥹

In the year, 1956, Onitcha and Obosi were tussling over a peace of land and Nweje was called as a witness.He told the jugde that non of the towns owned the land that “Ani bu ani chukwu” All lands belongs to God.
That statement ended the dispute and restored peace.

Thieves invaded his house and stole fowls and Tubers of yams. As they were escaping, he ran after them, called them back to come and take more saying it’s hunger that made them steal.
He was seen as an upright,spotless, holy and righteous man.That’s why they nicknamed him “Holy Nweje “
He was a symbol of holiness,worthy of emulation .
Nweje street in Onitcha was named after him to Immortalise him.
Unfortunately ,today, People that try to live a righteous life are called “Holy Nweje” not as commendation but as an insult from morally bankrupt people in our society.
