The power of making informed choices – Livy-Elcon Emereonye

You cannot be everything to everyone at a time or even at different times. No matter how hard you try, you cannot serve every interest or please everyone. Appreciating this fact with its associated limitations is a step in living a life of purpose. To get the best, focus on your focus. Within the limit of your ability, do your best and leave the rest.

But how can you know the primary purpose of your life and then make informed choices towards fulfilling it? At what stage, and probably under what condition can you realize the true essence of your being? Why are you here, and now?

Look around. What did you see? Take a good look at the mirror. What did you see? Are you satisfied?

Your answers to the above questions will suggest who and what you are – and they are all you need to start the march towards the fulfillment of your purpose in life. You are in the best place for the onward movement!

Know yourself and know your limits. A good knowledge of yourself is the first condition to becoming who you are meant to be. To live full, seek knowledge. Read books – good books. Spend money to train yourself. Invest into life.

Life is all about choices. Choice is an act of choosing between two or more possibilities, and it pays to make the right choice. At every point in time, try to make informed choices and be responsible for them.

The right to make a choice is a fundamental right; use it very well. Making choices – right choices – will help us to be more independent and in charge of our lives. However, we must make our choice in consideration and relation to others bearing in mind that where our right ends begins that of another.

Time affects choice. As time changes, situations too will change and this will affect the choice made and the outcome thereof so when things change, adjust your choice to fit well into the prevailing situation. There is no need to be rigid and fixated but there is need not to be a rolling stone that gathers no moss.

In 7 Ways to Make Good Choices, Frank Sonnenberg penned: We’re all confronted by countless choices each day. Some have minimal consequences, such as whether to have our ice cream in a cup or cone, while other decisions can be life changing. And while some of these choices may impact our lives today, other choices may not affect us for years to come. The important thing to remember is that we are a product of the choices we make. Each decision helps to define who we are and how we’re different from one another. Making good choices begins with taking charge of the decision-making process. Do you make good choices?

Manage the big stuff. It’s very easy to get sidetracked by insignificant issues in life. If you spend a lot of time on trivial stuff, you won’t have time to contemplate things that matter.

Values matter. Make decisions that are consistent with your core beliefs and values. The alternative invariably leads to regret.

Learn from the past. Learn from your experiences and the experiences of others. Identify situations where you’ve had a similar choice in the past. How can you apply those lessons learned to the existing situation?

Know what you know and what you don’t know. Don’t try to be an expert in everything. Seek input and advice when variables lie outside your comfort zone.

Keep the right perspective. View an issue from every vantage point. What do the facts say? What is your intuition telling you? Is your conscience trying to tell you something? Listen up.

Don’t procrastinate. You’ll rarely have all the information that you need to make a “perfect” decision. So don’t demand perfection. The philosopher Voltaire warned against letting the perfect be the enemy of the good. That advice still holds true today.

Once you make a decision, don’t look back, make it work. Don’t second-guess yourself. You can’t relive the past. It’s a waste of valuable time and energy.

Life’s not about checking an item off your to-do list or trying to impress others with how busy you are. Life’s about being content with where you’ve been, where you are now, and where you’re going. It’s about being proud of who you are, what you represent, and the impact that you’re having on others. This begins and ends with the choices that you make. So give some serious thought to every choice you face. As Albert Camus once said, “Life is a sum of all your choices.” Are you happy with the path that you’re choosing for yourself? The choice is yours.

To make the right choice, you must be conscious of the fact that change is constant and as such make provisions to accommodate inevitable changes. With this, you will realize that this ‘choice’ isn’t life-altering; weigh and balance the options, act right and in time; seek advice from trusted others, tailor the actions to suit the circumstances; and if it doesn’t work, do something else and thereafter find the best time to think about the choices. It is important to consider and do these things because there is a tremendous need for good decision making in today’s world and done right, they increase our values.

In decision making, some of the choices we make can greatly affect our lives. We can prosper or suffer by the choice we make. And one funny thing about choice in decision making is that what looks right on the surface may be troublesome at the end even with all precautions because we made the wrong choice from the onset without knowing it. So how can we make the right choice?

The choices we make in our relationship, career, and where we live affect us more than any other choice in our lives. Our family comes first in everything we do and the person we eventually become. Therefore, do all you can to have a peaceful family. Make the choices that will bring out the best in you and cause you to fulfill your destiny and purpose right and in time in your family.

Your career is the primary source of your income. You earn a living with your work. You can become rich and famous with what you do. Therefore, do all you can to make the right choice here so that your life will blossom. And have you made the wrong choice in this area, remake it and if possible start afresh all over again. No price is too much to get it right.

The place we live has ways of affecting how we behave and who we become. Those in the wrong environment often think and act negatively. Those who mingle with the poor might end up believing that poverty is synonymous with piety. The company we keep can make or mar our status. Therefore, build your social network and increase your net worth.
