That Turbulent Flight From Abuja – My Testimony

0

I want to start by giving all glory to God Almighty, The Maker of life and all things. The One who choses any program of His choice for all His creatures.

I boarded an Airpeace flight from Abuja to Asaba yesterday being 8th of May 2021. Apart from the inconsistencies and changes in the departure time, initially from 2.15pm to 3pm and later to 4pm and finally to 5pm, about 130 passengers boarded the flight and it took off at exactly 5.25pm.

It is the grace of God that we are all alive to be giving this testimony. A journey that was supposed to be for about 45 minutes ended up at about 2hours 40 minutes at Portharcourt International airport. Isn’t this a magic? Destined to Asaba but landed in Portharcourt.

It is a miracle that the turbulent flight from Abuja did not crash. Airborne at about 40 minutes into the flight, when we were expecting announcement heralding the landing, we were instead told that it was raining heavily in Asaba making any landing arrangement difficult. After hovering for about another 40 minutes with the attendant turbulence (sometimes the plane showing a sign similar to that of old 404 pickup that was jumping a very big gutter while on the move), the crew announced a reversed move back to Abuja. By this time, all of us in the plane had turned to prayer warriors. The announcement was a bit sign of relief for us, at least we can go back to Abuja safely. The moratorium did not last as a new announcement followed that Abuja was no longer safe to land, that instead, we are proceeding to Portharcourt.

The anxiety in the passengers heightened. How could you explain being in a turbulent aircraft for about three hours without even knowing what will happen next. Even the air hostesses has been advised to fasten their seatbelt just like every other passenger. Their phonetic announcements were no longer coming. It was then we knew that all man was on his own. We only sought the intervention of the Supreme being, the Pilot General of the whole universe. That, to me, was our only saving grace.

Remember, you cannot make or receive calls as all mobile phones were disabled. No means to even communicate your last wish to your family and friends. We would have died intestate.

The pilot later found a voice to announce that we should expect landing in Portharcourt around 8.05pm. We intensified our praying, asking God to intervene and save our souls. What matters to us by this time was to land, amidst safely, anywhere, even if it will be in the middle of Bokoharam’s Sambisa forest. We were all dead by this time. The turbulence was increasing. Chaiii! to die is the easiest thing on this earth. ‘Fiam’, one is gone.

At exactly 8.00pm, the plane was like somersaulting. It continued until it had what I may describe as a violent landing just at about 8.06pm. The crew had announce that we will be taken back to Abuja almost immediately so as to have a repeat flight the following day. We waited until our feet touched the ground before telling them that we were not going anywhere again. We slept in Portharcourt and found our ways in the morning. That turbulent AirPeace almost killed all of us but God Almighty, The Pilot General of the whole universe, decided to return our lives even though they belongs to Him.

Portharcourt airport that is more prone to weather inconsistencies was calm for us to land. God still answer prayers. When you fervently call Him, He MUST show Himself. All glory and honour be unto Him forever and ever, amen.
