Taiwo Hassan Sparks Debate Over Boss–Apprentice Relationships in Entertainment Industry
Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has sparked debate after sharing his views on relationships between bosses and apprentices in the entertainment industry.
The actor made the statement during an interview, where he argued that it is not wrong for a boss to ask an apprentice out, as long as the relationship is based on mutual consent and free from any form of coercion.
According to him, such relationships should not be seen as inappropriate if both parties are adults and willingly agree. He emphasized that f0rce or pressure should never be involved, stressing that consent is the most important factor.
“It’s not a crime for a boss to ask his apprentice out… there’s no problem as long as he doesn’t force her”, he said.
Hassan also explained that within the Yoruba theatre industry, some aspiring actresses join theatre groups partly because of their admiration for established actors. He noted that during his time in the Odunfa Caucus, some women were drawn to prominent figures like himself and other senior colleagues.
He added that, in such situations, a boss can respectfully express interest by asking if the apprentice is open to a relationship, maintaining that there is nothing wrong with it if handled appropriately.
The comments have since generated mixed reactions, with many Nigerians debating the ethical implications of relationships involving power imbalance in professional settings.
