The Bishop, The Rt. Rev’d. Ephraim Okechukwu Ikeakor and delegates to the third session of the fourth synod of the Anglican Diocese of Amichi have been received by the family of Sir & Lady Amobi Ogum of Etitinabor village, Unubi in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

In his welcome remark, the host Sir. Amobi welcomed the Bishop and his entourage and expressed great delight to have been given such opportunity.

He called the attention of the Bishop to the challenges of multiplicity of churches resulting to big churches buildings with few membership. He called for a shift of attention from multiplying churches to building capacity.

He went down the memory lane as to how he came to take responsibilities in the church. He said his commitment to the church is in response to the appeal made by his late father Prof. G E O Ogum when he called on his children to make deliberate efforts to contribute meaningfully to the church. He said that was what spurred him and other members of the family to participate actively in hosting the synods and undertake other responsibilities in the church.

In his response, Bishop Ikeakor eulogized the legacies of Late Prof and Lady Ogum whom he described as great pillars in the church. He said that the late parents of the host would be proud of their children who have taken up responsibilities in the church.

Responding to the observation of Sir Amobi about church planting, the Bishop said that church planting is a strategy for church growth. According to him in raising disciples, a pastor/membership ratio should be 1:120.

For good pastoral relationship, a pastor should know his members by name. The bishop said that the Anglican church is losing members because while other churches are expanding, the Anglican church is clustering in one place.
He assured that in the Diocese of Amichi, church planting will be done prayerfully and not arbitrarily.

The synod delegates were treated to a sumptuous dinner by their host who also lavished them with other gift items.

Dignitaries present at the occasion include the synod guest preacher, Ven. Prof. Pic Onwoche and the Bible study facilitator, Ven. Ifeanyi Aniagboso.

Proceedings of the third session of the fourth synod will continue with a Holy Communion service tomorrow at Ebenezer Church, Unubi.

Sir Amobi Ogum is one of the vibrant knights of Amichi diocese that I look up to. May God bless the host and the entire people of Unubi archdeaconry.rnLong live Amichi Diocese
