Senegal adopts bill to toughen penalties for same-sex relations
Senegal’s cabinet has adopted a bill to amend the penal code, seeking tougher penalties for same-sex relations and child sexual abuse, with the proposal now headed to the National Assembly.
The move follows the arrest of 17 men over alleged same-sex relations and 14 suspects linked to a paedophile ring operating between Senegal and France.
Ministers said the bill would clarify the definition of “unnatural acts” and increase existing prison terms, though authorities did not specify the extent of the proposed changes.
