Second Open University study center established in Anambra
A new National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) study centre located at Isulo community in Orumba South South local government area of Anambra state has been inaugurated by the vice chancellor of the institution, Prof. Abdalla Adamu.
The study centre, built by Isulo Development Union, IDU as part of the N20 million community choose-your-project initiative of the state government, was the second of its kind in the state after its first branch at Abagana.
Dedicating the centre, the VC described the institution’s establishment as part of foundation for the future generations while it offers unique opportunities for people.
Adamu who was represented by deputy vice chancellor (Academic) of the University, Prof. Uduma Orji-Uduma, disclosed that NOUN has over 100 study centres and about 500, 000 students across the federation.
He commended the community’s leadership for its vision and commitments towards the establishment of the centre, expressing optimism that it would offer job opportunities to indigenes of the area.
Traditional ruler of the town, Igwe Felix Maduka, described the facility as a significant development in the community, challenging youths to maximize the opportunity to acquire further education.
Earlier, president general of IDU, Sam Oguagbaka explained that the presence of the university to the area would change the landscape and development trajectory of the community for good.
He implored the state and federal governments to reciprocate the gesture by increasing infrastructural presence in the community.
Member representing Orumba South at the State House of Assembly, Engr. Emma Nwafor, his Orumba North counterpart, Chief Emeka Aforka, and Chairman Orumba South Council Area, Mr. Cyprain Okereke, were optimistic that the center would transform and stimulate intellectual and economic development of the area.
On his part, former rector, Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Prof. Godwin Onu, and chairman of Nzukoha Orumba, a non-government organisation thanked the federal government for considering the community suitable for the centre.
