The statement “Hate is a corrosive substance capable of destroying one’s character” resonates deeply in the context of the recent publications by the Anambra State Government regarding SABMILLER Breweries. Rather than celebrating the significant investments and economic contributions brought into the state, the focus has shifted to petty grievances, hate and divisive rhetoric. In times of economic uncertainty and social vulnerability, it is essential for leaders to rise above animosity and recognize the genuine efforts made to enhance the state’s prosperity.
Peter Obi’s assertion that SABMILLER Breweries is the highest taxpayer to the Anambra State Government underscores a vital economic achievement during his tenure. This investment not only contributes substantially to the state’s revenue but also provides countless jobs and stimulates local industries.
By attracting such a reputable investment 13 years ago, Obi demonstrated a commitment to fostering a robust economic environment. This achievement should be lauded and built upon rather than diminished by a government preoccupied with infighting and disparaging past contributions.
In contrast, Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s recent stance raises questions about the current administration’s priorities. Instead of following through with initiatives that promote industrial growth and economic stability, the focus appears to be on undermining the very foundations laid by previous leaders. Such an approach is not only short-sighted but also detrimental to the collective progress of Anambra State. Leaders must recognize that vitriolic analysis against predecessors only serves to distract from the goal of uplifting the state and its people.
Ultimately, for Anambra State to thrive, it is crucial that all leaders place the welfare of their constituents above rivalries and personal grievances. Constructive dialogue, unity, and recognition of the positive impacts of past investments like SABMILLER Breweries are essential for the long-term growth of the economy.
Governance should be focused on building bridges, not walls, as true leadership is demonstrated through constructive collaboration that benefits all stakeholders. Embracing this ethos will not only fortify the state’s economic standing but also enhance the character of its leaders, ensuring that hate and division do not corrode the collective aspirations of the Anambra people.
