Rivers Assembly authorizes Wike’s proposal to access N15bn loan from CBN

The Rivers State House of Assembly has approved the request by the state governor, Nyesom Wike, to access a N15bn credit support loan from the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The approval followed a letter from Gov. Wike to the lawmakers to allow him access the money to enable his government fund critical Infrastructures in the state.

The State Executive Council had on Tuesday given approval for the state government to access the fund.

According to the commissioner for Finance, Isaac Kamalu, who spoke to journalists after the SEC meeting in Port Harcourt, said, “This will be utilised as further support for the critical infrastructure that the state is embarking and presently prosecuting, which are the Chokocho-Igbodo Road in Etche Local Government; the Oyigbo-Okoloma Road in Oyigbo Local Government Area and the Rumuokwurushi-Elimgbu flyover.

Leading the debate on the request by the governor, the Leader of the House, Martin Amaewhule as well as the Deputy Speaker, Edison Ehie, said the fund became necessary to allow the current government improve on the infrastructures of the state.

In his submission, the Speaker of the House, Ikunyi Owaji Ibani, said the funds, when accessed, will help to consolidate on the numerous projects executed by Governor Wike-led administration.
