The raining season has increased the plights of students, motorists, and other residents of Ifite-Awka, Anambra State, as they on daily basis battle against the worsening condition of roads in the area.

Driving along the main road and other adjoining ones has become torturous as one of the motorists, James Ibe, recounted in an interview with Correspondent Mavis Opara.

“I am now very mindful of what I wear. If you dress properly, you have yourself to blame. It is either the passing vehicle or tricycle splash water on you or you get stuck at some point on the road,” one of the residents, Chris Obi, regretted.

A student, Favour Ani, recalled with dismay that, “trekking on this road when it rains is very bad because it becomes muddy and most times I end up messing up my dress before I get to school”.

“I walk in the flooded and bad roads to school, and I ended up getting my dress wet, even if you call a motorcyclist to transport you, they will refuse because they are trying not to damage their motorcycles, noted another student, Grace Anthony.

“It was difficult for me to convince the passenger it was not my fault we fell”, he explained.

Business owners within the area are not spared of the frustrations as recounted by one of them, Mr Okoro Chinedu.
