Relief as Dr. Chidolue Begins Construction Of First Kidney Transplant Hospital In Nnewi

There will be relief for Kidney patients in Southeast as Dr Okey Chidolue has began the construction of the first Kidney Transplant Center in Nnewi. 

It was  gathered that the hospital which is a private initiative of Dr. Okey Chidolue will be completed before the end of this year, 2021.

The hospital which is expected to address all kidney-related problems Including dialysis, kidney transplant among others, will the first of its kind in the region.

Located in Edoji, Uruagu-Nnewi, the hospital will be a boost to the medical power of Nnewi. Recall that Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital is in Nnewi.

According to a former President, West African College of Surgeons, Prof Okechukwu Mbonu, the Southeast is the most backward in Nigeria in terms of addressing kidney diseases which incidentally is very high in the region. The hospital is bound to help.

In addition to this, the Former Chief Medical Director of Nnamdi Azikwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, Prof. Anthony Igwegbe, stated that data available to him tells him that Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) accounts for 10% of medical admissions as recorded in NAUTH.

More worrisome is the fact that a majority of the patients with CKD are young, usually aged between 25 and 50 years, showing that its patients suffer it during their most economically productive years.
