Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, clarified that N8 billion in the 2025 budget will fund advocacy against vandalism and support infrastructure protection in Nigeria’s electricity sector. The initiative includes public education, community engagement, and deploying technology to safeguard power assets. Adelabu cited rising vandalism, such as recent underground cable thefts in Abuja and attacks on transmission towers, which have cost billions to repair. The program will involve town hall meetings, media campaigns, and CSR projects to encourage infrastructure ownership. The minister also highlighted progress on the Siemens project to modernize the grid, with 95% of the pilot phase completed, adding over 1,000 MW to the current capacity of 5,528 MW.
