Justice Binta Dogonyaro of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Apo has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Jubrin Buba, an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), for failing to appear in court after being granted bail. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) initially arraigned Buba before Justice Asma’u Akanbi of the FCT High Court, Kubwa, on charges of forgery and making false statements. The case was reassigned to Justice Dogonyaro after Justice Akanbi was elevated to the Court of Appeal. Buba is accused of fraudulently presenting a fake bachelor’s degree in public administration from the University of Jos, dated October 7, 2009, to secure employment with the NSCDC. The charges, filed under sections of the Penal Code and the Corrupt Practices Act, allege forgery and making false statements to public officers. At Thursday’s scheduled re-arraignment, neither Buba, his lawyer, nor his surety appeared in court, prompting ICPC counsel Aniekan Ekong to request a bench warrant for Buba’s arrest and a notice for the surety to explain why the bail bond should not be forfeited. Justice Dogonyaro granted the requests and adjourned the case to March 4, 2025, for arraignment and further hearing.
