Policeman shot in Delta, as police fires a passenger

A Policeman was allegedly shot dead yesterday around Jeffia estate area of PTI road, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State with his rifle snatched by his assailants.

An eyewitness said the gunmen were driving in a Toyota Corolla vehicle when they ran into the Policeman before opening fire on him.They immediately went for his rifle when he slumped.

The source said: “The armed robbers drove through the Jefia Estate from Uti Road to link PTI Road because of the gridlock at DSC Roundabout, which is caused by the speed bumps when they fired at the MOPOL manon guard.

  “The officer was with his service rifle when the hoodlums shot him on his chest and one of the robbers rushed to collect it and zoomed off. He died almost immediately at the spot.”

 Meanwhile a Police officer who did not want his name in print confirmed the incident,saying security operatives were on the trail of the hoodlums.

At another development , the Rivers State Police Command has arrested the police officer, who shot a passenger in Rivers State because of N100 bribe.

The police personnel, who was on stop and search at Evekwu axis on the East-West road with other colleagues, shot a passenger who was traveling on Agofure bus from Warri in Delta State to Port Harcourt,Rivers State.

 Confirming the development, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, Public Relations Officer of the state police command, said the officer, who shot the passenger has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department, adding that Section 237 of Police Code,which borders on how an officer should use a firearm would be evoked on the suspect.

 He said the incident happened on December 11, adding that the victim has already been discharged from the hospital.
