Police Storm PDP Headquarters as Factional Secretaries Prepare to Resume

0

The Nigeria Police on Monday stormed the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) amid tensions as both Samuel Anyanwu, the embattled National Secretary, and Ude Okoye, declared by the Court of Appeal as the authentic National Secretary, prepared to resume work. Both Anyanwu and Okoye are asserting their claims to the office of PDP National Secretary, escalating a leadership dispute. The conflict arose after Anyanwu vacated the position to contest the Imo State governorship election, which he lost to the incumbent. Upon his return, Okoye, who managed the office during Anyanwu’s absence, contested his reinstatement, arguing that Anyanwu relinquished his claim by stepping down. Last week, the Court of Appeal ruled in favor of Okoye. Following the judgment, the PDP National Working Committee recognized Okoye as the legitimate National Secretary, emphasizing the party’s respect for judicial rulings.
