Pentecost: Cleric Advises Christians To Shun Sin To Attract Holy Spirit
Christians have been challenged to be guided by the holy spirit, to live righteously.
A visiting Priest at Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, Amikwo Awka, Reverend Father Anthony Igboamalu, gave the challenge in a homily during holy mass to celebrate Pentecost Sunday.
Reverend Father Igboamalu, who lamented that due to hunger for wealth and things of the world, many are living sinful life which chases away holy spirit in one’s life, advised people to run away from idol worshipping, greed, backbiting, fornication and other forms of ills and embrace righteousness for the holy spirit to dwell among them.
At Saint Peter’s Church, Amawbia, the Archdeacon, Amawbia Archdeaconry and Vicar of the church, Venerable Vincent Nkemdilim, said the church is commissioned and energized to preach the gospel of Christ to the nook and crannies of the world as Christians commemorate the feast of the Pentecost.
In a sermon with the theme, “Ignited and empowered by the spirit”, Venerable Nkemdilim noted that the church through, the holy spirit has been equipped to live out the fruits of the spirit.
On his part, the Archdeacon, Enugwu-Ukwu Archdeaconry and Vicar, Immanuel Church Enugwu-Ukwu, Venerable Chris Ogbodo, said Pentecost marks the birth of the church through which the holy spirit enables one to bear good fruits.
At Grace Land Parish Awka, the Minister in charge and Moderator of Awka Presbytery of Presbyterian Church, Right Reverend Nwabueze Nwanchor, maintained that Pentecost is the manifestation of the power of God in the church, giving hope and directives on how to bear witness to Christ.
Right Reverend Nwanchor asked the Christians to keep God’s commandments and allow God to take over their lives, so He will guide, protect and lead them aright.
Series of prayers were offered in all the churches visited.
