Our fear over influx of Almajiris in South East – Anambra Monarchs

Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council has expressed serious concern over the mass infiltration of Almajiris from some Northern states into the Southern part of the country.

The traditional rulers made their feelings known in a communiqué issued after their expanded Executive Committee meeting, held at their Council Hall, Government House, Awka.

The communiqué was signed by the Chairman, Anambra State Traditional Rulers’ Council, and Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, the Deputy Chairmen, Igwe Sunday Okafor of Okpuno, and Igwe Chuma Onyia of Okakwu Odekpe.

The royal fathers expressed worries that many of the Almajiris may have already been infected with the Coronavirus disease and urged Anambra State government to ensure that the Almajiris do not enter the state.

They also urged government not to relent in its fight against the long standing menace of some cattle rearers.

The Royal Fathers commended Governor Willie Obiano for his exemplary leadership in the fight against COVID-19, prompt establishment of Isolation Centres across the state, regular update broadcasts to Ndi Anambra, public enlightenment, mobilization as well as protection of the state boundaries and entry points.

While pledging their continued support without to the state administration, the Traditional Rulers enjoined Ndi Anambra and Nigerians to strictly observe all the COVID-19 health and safety directives.
