The Transition Councillor of Okpoko ward 1, Ogbaru LGA, Anambra State, Hon. Chukwudi Okwaraji has rained encomium on the Executive Governor of Anambra state, Professor Chukwuma Soludo for his commitments to ensure total evacuation of wastes in Okpoko Community.
Okwaraji, popularly known as Pele, told newsmen in Okpoko that Soludo during the inauguration of Transition Councillors directed them to monitor and ensure that their respective wards/ Communities are free from dirt and wastes.
“I am aware that the contractor for waste management is working in Okpoko and that is why I monitor them and also patrol round to make sure that there is no litter point in Okpoko especially in my ward.
“His Excellency told us to be his eyes in our various wards and Communties to overseeing that every thing is moving accordingly because whom more is given, more is expected, and if you don’t perform well, you might loose your position. I invited the contractor to come and clear all the wastes in my ward because I don’t want to see litter point any where in my ward”
Pele who is also an (APGA) Stalwart in Okpoko disclosed that nobody pays for waste evacuation for now until the State government approves it and it would be announced.
He urged Okpoko ward 1 and Okpoko Community in general to support the governor’s reign in the state in other to reciprocate his good initiative he has for Okpoko by voting for APGA candidates in the forthcoming 2023 election ranging from Anambra North Senatorial seat, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano, Ogbaru Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Arinzechukwu Awogu, and State House of Assembly, Hon. Linus Ezenwa.
Equally speaking, the supervisor Shalom Hitech Waste Management Nigeria LTD, Mr. Festus Nnagboro affirmed that they are the contractor handling waste management in the whole of Okpoko. He also said they started managing wastes in Okpoko, early last year, noting that they were directly contracted by Anambra State government.
“Anambra State government is aware that we are working in Okpoko. Our duty is to clear wastes when people call us, but we are not collecting any levy from the inhabitants because government has not approved any levy.
“When government issues order for levy, it will be publicly announced but for now nothing like levy. Although, we are still working for the community but, I don’t know the duration of the contract because government contract is something else. If you perform well, they retain you but if you don’t perform well, they look for another person” the Contractor said.
