President of the Apex Igbo Socio-Cultural Organization, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Anambra state chapter, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene yesterday appealed to politicians of Igbo extraction to ensure they are committed to the President of Nigeria of Igbo extraction by ensuring that South East candidates emerge from their political parties.

Okeke-Ogene stated this when he led an expanded executive members of the Association comprising of the men, women and youth wings to a courtesy call to former Governor of Anambra State, and Vice Presidential Candidate of PDP in 2019 elections,Chief Peter Obi.

He warned Igbo politicians not to abandon the collective project of Nigerian President of Igbo extraction in 2023 as that’s the only way for Ndigbo to be seen as truly Nigerians.

He appealed to Chief Peter Obi not to abandon politics, but to continue to avail Nigeria his wisdom and insight on governance for a better society.
He announced that Peter Obi was the only politicians Ohaneze Ndigbo has visited since his adminstration to thank him for what he stood for in Igbo land and his contributions to Ohaneze particularly when he sponsored it’s World Igbo congress in US as a non partisan politician.
He reminded that they unanimously adopted Peter Obi when he vied for presidency with Alahaji Atiku Abubakar without seeing him or hearing from him but because he is an Igbo man.

Responding, Vice Presidential Candidate of PDP in 2019 Presidential election , Chief Peter Obi thanked the Ohaneze Ndigbo for adopting him and presidential flag bearer of PDP in 2019 presidential election, Alahaji Atiku Abubakar who he described as a good Nigerian.

Obi as well thanked them for being selfless in that adoption as non of them had met him for money privately or publicly in that contest.

He insisted that Atiku meant well for Nigeria, but since God has the final say in the affair of men, His will has prevailed.

He warned that a president of Igbo extraction should be a candidate with a difference and not one to continue in the albatross, wondering why people should use public money without caution when public money is meant for public good.

He encouraged Igbo leaders at all levels to continue to be selfless in all they do for the interest of Ndigbo, adding that he believes in the transformation of Igbo land through collective efforts.

He however insisted that Nigeria’s problems need to be fixed before Igbo presidency, since structured Nigeria is better than Igbo presidency project because according to Obi, Nigeria is a great country with so many potentials with its major problem being poor leadership.

Obi further tasked politicians and indeed all Nigerians to be worried on the level of frustration and suffering people go through daily in the country and shun all acts that would add to that pains.
