Ochuba Samuel Emerges As Unizik SUG President-Elect

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has elected Comrade Ochuba Chukwusom Samuel as the President of its 32nd Students’ Union Government (SUG) in an election held on Friday, 1st August 2025.
The election, which was initially scheduled for Wednesday, 30th July, was postponed by the university management and rescheduled for Friday. The process was conducted online under the supervision of the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Makodi Biereen Nnabugwu, and the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Carol Umeobi.

Pre-election activities, including form sales, submission, and screening of aspirants, stirred tension across the university community as students anticipated the emergence of new union leaders. Campaigns officially ended at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, 31st July while voting commenced at 9 a.m. on Friday via an online portal, which required students to authenticate their identities using a one-time password (OTP) and facial verification before accessing the voters page.
Some faculties and departments experienced delays in receiving OTPs, which caused anxiety. However, the issue was partially resolved by 2 p.m., allowing more students to participate.The portal closed at exactly 5 p.m., and the election results were displayed immediately.Comrade Ochuba Chukwusom Samuel won the presidential seat with 1,693 votes. Comrade Nwakonuche Judith Chinememma emerged as Vice President-Elect with 2,874 votes. Comrade Nduba Ifeanyi James won the position of Public Relations Officer with 2,472 votes. The Financial Secretary-Elect, Comrade Ogbonna Nzubechukwu Stanley, polled 4,620 votes, while Comrade Arinze Chinecherem Justus clinched the post of Director of Socials with over 3,000 votes.
Students across the university celebrated the emergence of their new leaders, praising the transparency and fairness of the process, which was largely free of rigging and malpractice.With the results concluded, the university community has officially welcomed the 32nd Students’ Union Government.
