Iwunwa Backs Call for Restoration of Traditional Rulers’ Functions in Nigerian Constitution

Founder of the Ikenga Abiama Dynasty Foundation, Her Royal Imperial Majesty, Amb. Dr. Uba Iwunwa, (Queen Ugobeze), has expressed her support for the restoration of the functions of traditional rulers in the Nigerian Constitution.

She commended the traditional ruler of Obosi Ukwalla Kingdom, Igwe Chidubem Iweka III, for raising this important issue.

In a statement released on Monday through her media aide, Iwunwa, who is the Sovereign Grand Matriarch of the 21st Century Pan-African Commonwealth Royalties from the Throne of HIRM King Aba Obazi IV Enebiene Royal Dynasty in Ghana and Nigeria, emphasized the significance of Igwe Iweka’s call, describing it as a timely response to the structural challenges facing Nigeria.

The World Peace Ambassador of Canada and the Nigeria Empire of David Commission stated, “This request reflects a broader need within our society to enhance governance by integrating traditional authority into contemporary political structures.”

The International best seller author and multiple award-winning artist highlighted that restoring the roles of traditional rulers is vital for reinforcing traditional institutions, which are key to maintaining cultural heritage and fostering community identity.

“Their knowledge of local issues positions them as essential allies in resolving conflicts and promoting peace more effectively than existing bureaucratic systems,” she added.

She further argued that formally incorporating traditional rulers into governance would enhance local governance and create a more inclusive political environment. “Their inclusion ensures that grassroots voices are heard, reflecting the diverse needs of all Nigerians,” she noted.

Additionally, Iwunwa pointed out the historical role of traditional rulers in mediating disputes and fostering unity. By empowering them within the constitutional framework, they can further contribute to national stability.

In closing, Amb. Iwunwa appealed to members of the National Assembly and other stakeholders to consider the restoration of traditional rulers’ functions as a crucial step towards improving governance in Nigeria, stating, “By embracing our traditional institutions, we honor our heritage while paving the way for a unified future for all Nigerians.”
