The Mayor elect of Anambra West Local Government Area, Hon. Dr. Tony Obierike, has called for stronger public institutions, tighter oversight of government spending and more effective enforcement of laws as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary on Oct. 1.
In a goodwill message issued on the occasion, Obierike said the country’s next phase of development should focus on practical measures that improve accountability and strengthen public confidence in government institutions.
He specifically advocated clearer responsibilities for public institutions, stronger monitoring of public expenditure and more transparent government processes, saying these measures would help institutions serve citizens more effectively.
On security and justice, the Mayor elect called for stronger community level security arrangements and improved access to justice, particularly for citizens who face difficulties navigating formal institutions.
He urged greater support for businesses and young people through measures that expand employment opportunities and encourage productive investment.
Obierike said national development requires participation from government and citizens alike, urging community leaders, institutions and individuals to contribute through responsible citizenship and constructive engagement.
While acknowledging the challenges facing the country, he urged Nigerians to remain committed to peace, unity and hard work.
He congratulated Nigerians at home and in the diaspora on the 66th Independence Anniversary, expressing hope for greater opportunities and improved living conditions in the years ahead.
“Happy Independence Anniversary to all Nigerians. May our nation continue to grow in strength, unity and prosperity, and may the years ahead bring renewed hope and greater opportunities for every citizen,” he said.
