OBIANO TASKS NEW RECOGNIZED TRADITIONAL RULERS ON PEACE IN COMMUNITIES

Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra State has tasked newly state government traditional rulers in the State on the urgent need for them to pursue peace and any move that will generate developments in their various communities in the State noting that the State Government is looking up to traditional rulers to work in synergy with them to develop the rural areas.

Giving this task through Barr. Mrs Veraqueen Okonkwo his special adviser on chieftaincy matters who represented him during the issuance of a certificate of recognition to HRM Igwe Godwin Nwabunwanne Odiegwu Ikedim Abachacheleku III the new traditional ruler of Abacha town, Idemili North LGA held at Government House, Awka last Wednesday, Gov. Obiano noted that the main aim of government recognition of traditional rulers is to partner with them to bring developments to the grassroots and urged them to work to justify the confidence reposed in them by the government.

While congratulating HRM Godwin Odiegwu on his new position, he charged traditional rulers in the state to shun corruption, pursue unity as well as any move that will bring developments in their various communities, carry everybody along in the scheme of their affairs etc.

Responding on behalf of the traditional council of Abacha town, Onowu, Paul Omofia, the traditional prime minister of the community thanked the governor for recognizing their Monarch who he noted was chosen by the entire town. He expressed joy on the new Monarch and pledged on behalf of the traditional council and entire people to continue supporting the state government in their onerous task of living legacy projects in the state.

Earlier before the presentation of the certificate of recognition, Chief Okeke Obata the incumbent President General of the community, Engr. Chinwuba Adabanya, Chief Emeka Okelo, two former President General of the town and Nnemuo Ambassador Uche Ajulu Okeke, one time Nigerian Ambassador Consular General to South Africa had in a brief remark told the Governor that the people of the town chose their new traditional ruler after a town hall meeting of all members of the community who unanimously chose the new king to pilot the affairs adding that the choice of the Monarch came from every member of the community.
